What can be hard to understand for many is all the "names" and letters that comes with in the project of building a PC. Someone comes juts natural, others we may have to Google or ask in a forum. We are going to try to explain what all the components mean and what meaning they have to a system
CPU: Central Processing Unit/Your systems "brain" and the most important peace of the computer
RAM: Random Access Memory/Indicates how fast your system will process data and is a big part of the systemspeed together with the CPU
PCI: Peripheral Component Interconnect/A slot connect type for the cards that are going into the system.
PCI Ex: PCI EXPRESS/Same as PCI, but different key (PCI Ex will not work in an PCI slot and oposite)
HDD: Short for Harddrive
SATA (also called Serial-ATA or S-ATA): Serial Advanced Technologi Attatchment/Cabel/connection type for DVD-Burner and HDD
IDE: Interregated Development Enviroment/Same thing as SATA, but connect the DVD-burner and the HDD together before it goes to the mainboard.
CHOOSING HDD:
As you might rode under "Build it", you noticed that I used SATA HDD and DVD-reader. This is something i highly recommend for everyone because it's a lot easier to use. When using SATA, you just connect them right to the mainboard. With IDE, there is jumpers to be set and every HDD/DVD-reader you install is going to be connected together.
DDR2 or DDR3
Maybe you have heard of DDR3 RAM. This is the newest RAM technology for computers. You may wonder what the differece are between DDR2 and DDR3. First of all I would like to tell everybody that a DDR3 memory set is a littlebit more expensive then DDR2, but then again can perform twice the busspeed as ddr2. DDR3 are recommended for gamers who are villing to pay a little more, but also want the best out of the machine. That does not mean you can have an exterme gamercomputer even though you are using DDR2.
